In London clubs at the moment it feels as if there’s a gapping bass shaped hole that needs filling. The more I speak to club promoters and ravers the general sentiment is that they need it ‘harder…’ enter Trap; a low slung dirty South type of electronic hip hop, with snares as crispy as KFC chicken, huge sub bass and some hazy purple drank style bars thrown in for good measure. In the latest edition of The Arts Desk Radio Show Joe Muggs and Peter Culshaw discuss the origins of Trap music and producers influenced by it. Listen and download.

On Monday we unleashed Branko’s (a.k.a J-Wow) insanely good mix. The Lisbon born producer effortlessly melds hard ass tracks with relentless bass lines and a few sensual vocals. The 45 minute selection features a remix of his latest track ‘Going In Hard’ with Miami rapper Dominique Young Unique. The video was recorded in part at Red Bull Studios London, watch it below.

Our producer in residence Hudson Mohawke told us about how he used to sneak into clubs when he was 14 to listen to hip hop and jungle. Naughty. Find out what he has been listening to of late.

We were lucky enough to catch up with Aiden Grimshaw when he came to the studios to record a couple of acoustic sessions for 4 Music and This Is Fake D.I.Y. Aiden told us that whilst making his ‘Misty Eye’ album he used to fill up on greasy scrambled eggs around the corner from the studio near Richmond. Read the full interview here.

If you’re out and about in London town tonight make your way down to Birthdays in Stoke Newington to see Drop The Lime play a four-hour set. The night celebrates the launch of his album ‘Enter The Night.’ Watch the video for album single ‘Bandit Blues.’

Finally, it wouldn’t be pay day without a free download, so this month The Internet, that’s Odd Future's Syd Tha Kyd and Matt Martian's side project, have remixed studio friend Charli XCX’s single ‘You’re The One’ out September 3rd. Charli’s interspersed dramatic vocals vibe perfectly with this soulful minimal beat.

Still not got that Friday feeling? Then listen to this mix by The Heatwave.

Right, I’m off the woods!
