Chris Davenport descending Palisades in the California Sierras Christian Pondella/Red Bull Content Pool

When you get tired of skiing at local resorts, the next step is to start traveling, hitting resorts and ski areas with more to offer. But what do you do when you get tired of that? If you’re like Chris Davenport, you never stop searching for incredible venues, new challenges and first descents. Chris has traveled the globe pursuing his extreme skiing fix, documenting everything along the way so we can witness the amazing things he’s experienced.

Check out one of his books, Ski the 14ers and Fifty Classic Ski Descents of North America, and definitely get your hands on a copy of Australis: An Antarctic Ski Odyssey, a film documenting his epic 2009 ski trip to the Antarctic Peninsula (see the trailer below).

Davenport has seen and done some mind-blowing things, but that doesn’t take away from the joys of a nice plate of sushi or a summertime mowing of the lawn at his place in Aspen. Here are some of the things Chris is into when he’s not climbing and skiing the world’s most majestic peaks.

Favorite movie:
I have always been a big fan of trilogies, so The Matrix, Lord of the Rings, and The Godfather come to mind here.

Favorite book:
Since I'm a skier and a climber, I love classic books about the mountains. Heinrich Harrer's 1958 book about the first ascent of the Eiger North Face, The White Spider, ranks up there as one of my favorites. That and Reinhold Messner's account of his 8,000-meter climbs, All 14 8,000ers.

Favorite TV show:
Right now I'm hooked on Boardwalk Empire and Rubicon, but also love Breaking Bad.

Favorite magazine:
Alpinist is an incredible magazine about the mountains and climbing, but I also read Vanity Fair when I'm traveling.

Favorite song or artist:
I love music and listen to lots of different genres, from jam-bands to reggae, but Led Zeppelin is my all-time favorite.

Favorite animal:
Since I’ve been to Antarctica a couple of times recently, penguins are the best. Totally chill and unafraid of humans.

I love my life because I'm a skier, and that means total freedom!

Favorite color:
Blue, like the sky and ice.

Favorite holiday:
I'm not a big holiday guy, but my family loves Christmas so I stand behind that one.

Favorite tech gadget:
Definitely the iPhone, but my Contour GPS helmet camera is pretty trick as well.

Favorite thing to eat:
Sushi, fondue (when in Switzerland) or pizza (when in Italy).

Favorite thing to wear:
Jeans, a t-shirt, and a cotton hoodie pretty much do the trick for me most days, but it’s nice to slip into a suit every once in a while.

Favorite place to be:
Right now I'm in Chamonix, which kicks ass, but my home in Aspen is hard to beat, especially in the fall when the leaves are changing and there is snow in the high peaks.

Favorite way to indulge or treat/reward yourself:
I don't splurge on things very often, but buying bikes is one way I do it.

Favorite times to get up/go to bed:
Bed at 10:30, up at 6:30. Pretty standard for me these days.

Favorite thing to spend money on:
Bikes, kids, wife, and ski trips, not in any particular order.

Favorite thing to do in your free time:
Free time?

Favorite Red Bull product (regular, sugarfree, energy shot, cola):
I'm still a fan of regular; the original is still the best in my book.

Favorite time for a Red Bull:
I love a cold Red Bull at about 3 p.m., but also love cracking one in the mountains during a long day out.

Favorite thing about your sport:
My favorite thing about being a skier is all the places I get to travel to. The world is so amazing and I never get tired of epic mountain environments.

Favorite sport other than your own:
Cycling and climbing. I have been doing those two sports religiously since I was a teen. Great for the mind and body.

Favorite celebrity or sports star:
Hmm, I don't really have a favorite, but the big four of the Boston Celtics are pretty amazing.

Favorite people to ski with:
I love skiing with my kids these days. They constantly inspire me with what they learn and how they see the terrain and the snow.

Favorite thing in your house or apartment:
I have a pretty decent-sized property - two acres - and my lawn is a source of pride. I love getting the tractor out to mow in the summer.

Favorite thing about your life:
I love my life because I'm a skier, and that means total freedom!
