Dany Torres competing at X Games 17 Red Bull Media House North America, Inc.

With injuries to Travis Pastrana and Robbie Maddison prior to Friday night’s Moto X Freestyle competition, Spain’s Dany Torres prepared himself to hold it down for the Red Bull faithful inside Staples Center, and hold it down he did with a solid third-place, bronze medal performance.

After qualifying number one out of his Round 1 bracket, Torres convincingly advanced to the Freestyle Final where he’d meet bracket two’s top qualifier, Nate Adams, as well as Adam Jones and Taka Higashino.

Torres dropped into his first of three final runs holding nothing back, and after successfully executing the majority of his “money” tricks within the 60-second time period, the judges dropped a 42 to propel the Spaniard into a tie with Jones for the early lead.

Just moments later, however, Nate Adams came out firing, as well, sticking every trick en route to an impressive 45. With Round 1 in the books, the running order went Adams, Torres/Jones (tie), and Higashino.

Run number two was a near carbon copy of run 1 for Torres, as he locked in a 41 to back up his first round 42. Good for first-place momentarily, Adams once again came out swinging, dropping a 46 to extend his lead.

With just one round of runs left, all four finalists stepped up their game to put their stamp on X Games 17, but the only movement in the rankings came after Jones threw down a 44 to inch his way passed Torres for the silver medal. With his lead too far out of reach, Adams took a victory lap during his third and final run, and just like that the Moto X Freestyle Final was in the books.
