In what is arguably the most highly anticipated Moto X event at X Games each year, the Moto X Best Trick final offered up some of the biggest, highest risk tricks in the biz on Thursday night inside Staples Center, and Red Bull’s latest FMX contingent, Josh Sheehan, threw down a clutch performance to complete an Aussie sweep of the podium.
Up against a stellar field of competitors, Sheehan stomped a picture perfect double backflip to earn a respectable 93.33 from the judges. Though propelling Cam Sinclair to the gold just one year ago at X Games 16, the double back by itself just wouldn’t be enough to pull Sheehan out of bronze medal range, as Sinclair threw in a Nac Nac mid rotation to take the silver (Nac Nac Double Backflip).

Ahead of both Sinclair and Sheehan, fellow Aussie Jackson Strong landed the first-ever front flip in X Games Best Trick history to secure the gold with a 95.66.
A favorite in every event he enters, Travis Pastrana was also on-hand to try his luck in Moto X Best Trick with his mind boggling “TP Roll” (Rodeo 720), but unfortunately TP’s X Games would come to a premature end after suffering a broken foot and ankle while crashing in the event.
After under-rotating his first attempt, Pastrana got up quickly and immediately headed back to the ramp to try again. His second attempt ended with the same result, however, but this time he immediately grabbed his lower leg in obvious pain. Travis was taken to a local hospital where X-rays exposed the broken bones, and just like that his run at X Games 17 appears to be over.
