After a day of downpours, the clouds parted just in time for 1,200 party-goers to line up outside Trees in Dallas’ Deep Ellum district. The crowd waited eagerly to gain access to Red Bull Thre3Style, the innovative DJ battle taking the country by storm, headlined by all-star DJ Z Trip. Their wait would not be in vain. Having won local battles in their home cities, the premier DJs from Dallas, San Antonio, Boulder, Houston, New Orleans and Oklahoma City one-by-one took to the decks to challenge each other, and themselves, to mix, mash, spin and scratch the best party-rockin’, dance-inducing set. After an intense competition, Boulder’s DJ Vajra took home the title.

“Tonight’s competition was incredible with each DJ bringing their own unique styles to the table,” said DJ Vajra immediately following his win. “For me it came down to scratching really fast and the crowd just being receptive to that kind of creativity. I’m excited to bring that to Vegas and into what is sure to be a deep pool of talented DJs.”

Red Bull Thre3Style is a creative and innovative event format where the true art of party rockin’ is put to the test. The rules are few but vital. Mix at least three genres of music into a 15-minute set that gets the crowd on their feet and sets the dance floor on fire. Last night’s crowd got down to everything from P Diddy, Kanye West and Far East Movement to Michael Jackson, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Nirvana.

Special Guest Judges

On hand to judge the event were DJ A1 of the Cannabinoids, Paul Levatino of Control FreaQ Records/Erykah Badu,’s Jake Crates, KISS-FM’s Billy the Kidd and DJ Z-Trip. DJs were judged based on track-selection, technical skills, creativity and most importantly their ability to bring the house down.

This is without a doubt one of most real and defining DJ competitions in music today.

“This is without a doubt one of most real and defining DJ competitions in music today,” said judge Jake Crates. “The format forces DJs to impress the crowd and the judges by showcasing the true fundamentals of DJ: moving the crowd, mixing, song selection, creativity and stage presence.”

Capping off an incredible night of music mashing skills was the always electrifying DJ Z Trip. Z Trip kept the party going and the crowd dancing by mixing everything from LL Cool J’s “Mama Said Knock You Out” to R. Kelly’s “Bump N’ Grind.”

DJ Fisher Pryce Represeting Texas

DJ Vajra isn’t the only one headed Vegas for the National Finals. Dallas’s own DJ Fishr Pryce took second place thereby solidifying his spot to represent Texas in the National Finals. The winner from the US will head to Vancouver, British Columbia, to compete in the Global Finals against the world’s best DJs in hopes of being crowned the 2011 Red Bull Thre3Style World Champion.
