The Rap-Up is a weekly round-up of all things hip-hop. Check it out every Wednesday.

After Brawl, Game Pitches Reality Show

Game’s fisticuffs with 40 Glocc caught the Internet’s attention earlier this month. Now the Compton rapper plans to show a different side of his persona with a new visual project. He has collaborated with reality television production company 51 Minds Entertainment to record a reality show focusing on his impending marriage to Tiffany Cambridge. Since the release of his 2005 album, “The Documentary,” Game has discussed the most intimate parts of his personal life. On that album, he described the events surrounding the birth of his first child on “Like Father, Like Son." Game is shopping the show to television networks.

The Black Opera’s Magic Music

Given the pervasiveness of social media, it’s difficult for performers to maintain even a hint of mystique. A self-described collective of intellectuals, musicians, creators, artists and agents, The Black Opera appears bent on changing that.

The crew seemingly does not appear in its striking song and video for “Villains," which details the challenges of living on the block. The clip for “Sleep Tight” shows the crew’s rappers’ silhouettes and extreme close-ups, while the clever “EnterView” features a female member of The Black Opera answering questions about the group while its music plays.

The crew, however, reveals a few of its members in its new video for “The Magician” and its “EnterMission” album will get a physical release August 28 through Mello Music Group. These moves signal a potential unmasking of one of rap’s most promising collectives.

SonReal Looking For Canadian Glory

The Canadian rap scene has been vibrant since the 1980s, but thanks to Drake, American rap fans finally seem comfortable with the idea of embracing a Canadian rapper. Up next may be Vancouver’s SonReal. He’s been releasing mixtapes since 2008 and his “Good News” project drops July 25. It features the boast-heavy single “I Feel Like” with Rapper Pooh of Little Brother. This tag-team effort features SonReal impressively changing his delivery speed mid-verse and Pooh delivering some potent lines. Revered rhymer Saigon appears on “Good News” selection “Bedtime,” so it’s clear SonReal has earned respect from some top-tier lyricists. Time will tell if fans feel the same way.
