Innovative Freestyle Rap Battle will send North Carolina’s Best Emcee to the Finals in Detroit, Judged by Eminem.
Red Bull EmSee: The Road to 8 Mile is a freestyle rap battle of sight and sound, driven and spearheaded by the freestyle master himself, Eminem. The national series will make its stop in Greensboro on Thursday, August 5th where the area’s top lyricists will compete head-to-head for the title of best emcee in North Carolina. This invitation-only competition has a unique format that challenges the rapper to bring their game face to the chopping block and take it back to basics.
Emcees will not only battle against each other but also the clock and their mind’s eye when they are tested to create the sickest flows they can with on-the-spot based spontaneous cues. In this elimination style competition, the emcees will be judged based on three rounds, each with different challenges. In the first round, emcees will be tested on their versatility and speed as they’re given five images at random to base their freestyles on. The winners from that round will have to keep on their toes for round two as they’ll rap about themes that are texted in by a live audience to a screen. And the two who prove themselves above the rest and make it to the final round, will go head-to-head in a tradition freestyle battle.
The competitors: Kaze, Treason, Tenacious, Seven, K.O. Kid, Fuzz Jaxx, Shef Seenya, and Killa Chris
These eight competitors will take the stage at Greensboro’s N Club. However, the final spot was filled by a wildcard emcee who was chosen live on air in a special edition of Making the Station on 102 JAMZ. Killa Chris made it to the final round on Thursday night’s Waleed and Coyote Show where he then had to go up against Billie Dutches the next morning. They went head-to-head in a battle of the illest on the Wild Out Wake Up Show with Kyle Santillian where Killa Chris ultimately rose to the top and claimed his spot in the Red Bull EmSee Greensboro qualifier.
“I’m looking for somebody to stand out, to be unique and to say the sickest, most ridiculous, most retarded s#%! you can say, something that makes somebody want to quit,” explained Eminem. To hear what else he has to say about the contest check out: Red Bull Emsee: The Road to 8 Mile.
Headlining and judging the Red Bull EmSee Greensboro qualifier is one of the most prominent names in east coast hip-hop, EPMD. Also assisting in judging are local talents Phonte and Sonny Cheeba. D.R.E.S tha BEATnik and Kyle Santillian will lend their hosting skills to the competition as well.
