Moving from the Nou Camp to the Red Bull Arena, French player Thierry Henry is one of the biggest names to grace the MLS. In his glittering career, Henry has won almost every major trophy in soccer, including the World Cup and European Championship with France, the Champions League and domestic championships with Barcelona and Arsenal.

Born in the Paris suburbs, the Frenchman made his name on the wing for Monaco before moving to Serie A with Juventus. He finished the 1998 World Cup with a winner’s medal as France’s top scorer with three goals before switching to Arsenal, where manager Arsène Wenger turned him into an out-and-out striker.

The fast pace of Premier League soccer, a striking partnership with Dutch forward Dennis Bergkamp and the influence of Wenger, his former mentor at Monaco, helped Henry blossom into one of the greatest forwards in the game, winning two League titles on the way.

A multi-million move to Barcelona followed, where he formed the most successful goal-scoring partnership in Spanish league history with Argentine Lionel Messi and Samuel Eto’o of Cameroon. That formidable partnership also saw the Catalan giants amass the Champions League trophy as well as the Spanish double.

Henry called time on his international career with the move to Red Bull New York but insists he is hungry for more glory in the MLS, a point he proved by scoring in his debut in a friendly against Tottenham Hotspur.

“It is an honor to play for the New York Red Bulls. I am fully aware of the team’s history and my sole goal during my time here is to help win the club its first championship,” he said on his signing. “Knowing Red Bull’s significant commitment to soccer locally and internationally, I am confident that my teammates and I will succeed.”
