Over 2500 musicians from 67 countries submitted an application tape for the Red Bull Music Academy – sixty of them did so successfully. They’ll meet each other in Seattle, USA.

It took place for the eighth time, and for the eighth time it was anything but easy: the selection of participants for the Red Bull Music Academy. Over 2500 applications from all over the world had piled up – but only 60 tickets were distributed.
Those with tickets are invited to an intensive music program of studio sessions and workshops: this fall, for nearly two weeks, the participants will dive into the world of sound; travel and lodging expenses are included.
An expert jury comprised of sound pioneers, label headz, journalists and the Academy Content Team had the arduous task of making the selections. Each application tape was judged by at least two members. As in previous years, the jury convened at a secret location in Germany in order to avoid external influences.

Next Stop: Seattle

But it’s no longer a secret who the 60 participants in the 2005 Red Bull Music Academy will be. They’re singers, songwriters, DJs and producers from a total of 37 countries – including Argentina, Lithuania, England, Chile, New Zealand, Venezuela, France and the USA. (The list of names will be published at www.redbullmusicacademy.com.)
The Americans won’t have to travel far. This year’s location is “Sea Town”, the music metropolis Seattle in the US state of Washington. As usual, the Music Academy will again be divided into two 12-day sessions, each attended by 30 musicians. The first session will run from November 6 to 18, the second from November 27 to December 9.

Infected, Selected, Connected

The concept for the content will also remain the same for this eighth manifestation of the Music Academy. At the core will be that which is at the centre for everyone infected by music: an intense engagement with music and the exchange and contact with other like-minded individuals.
The participants will also be inspired by the collaboration with icons of the international music business. Big names like the funk drummer Bernard Purdie, boogie pioneer Leroy Burgess, master mixer Bob Power and the father of African jazz Hugh Masekela have all been guests of the Academy. Also in 2005, recognized stars from all areas of music will give lectures or simply jam with the students. The names of those who will be in Seattle will soon be posted at www.redbullmusicacademy.com.
