Four steps to becoming a Red Bull X-Fighters expert: Part one explains how the tricks 360, Backflip, Barhop, Barrel Roll, Can-Can and Candy Bar and dead body work. Trying them out, however, is not recommended …
360For the 360, riders carve off the ramp as if they’re going to whip the bike. At the apex of the ramp the riders pull back on the bars and look over their left shoulder.
The head position is the biggest difference in the execution of the 360 versus the Backflip. As the bike leaves the jump, it follows the direction of the rider’s head and rotates in a flat spin.
When the bike is past 270 degrees of rotation, the rider spots the landing and takes the bike from a flat spin into an up-right position (similar to the second part of a Backflip).
BACKFLIP
By doing a Backflip, the rider makes an entire rotation along the vertical-axis.
BARHOP
A Barhop consists of taking your feet off the pegs and extending your legs through your arms and above the handlebars. Riders who extend their legs well out in front of the bike will score higher points than riders who just get their feet above the handlebars. If the legs are crossed then the trick is called Fabhopor Indian Barhop. If the legs are spread apart in a V-fashion then the trick is called Shaolin.
BARREL ROLL
So far this is a very rarely seen combination of a Backflip and a 360°. Here, the rider and bike make a backwards flip while doing a corkscrew.
CAN-CAN
The riders take one foot off the foot peg and raise one leg up and over the seat so that both legs are on one side of the bike. If the other foot comes off the peg and both legs are extended away from the bike then the trick is called a No-Foot Can-Can. Riders can land the jump with both legs on one side of the bike for added style points.
CANDYBAR
Riders take a leg off and put it through their arms and over the handlebars. Extra points are scored if the rider makes contact with the front fender. Some riders are even able to perform a Candy Bar Lander, leaving the leg on the front fender while coming in for a landing.
