Danny MacAskill is a professional street trials rider for Inspired Bicycles Ltd, born and raised in Dunvegan on the Isle of Skye, Scotland.
On April 19, 2009, the then 23-year-old released a five-and-a-half-minute street trials video on YouTube set to ‘The Funeral’ by the Band of Horses that was about to change his life. Filmed and produced by his flatmate Dave Sowerby, Inspired Bicycles got a few hundred thousand views overnight and as of today has been watched over 34 million times – the world went crazy for Danny. He found himself featured in the New York Times and several other big publications, joined a Hollywood production as a stuntman, appeared in a TV-commercial for the new Volkswagen Golf Estate and was nominated for the Category “Action Sportsperson of the Year” at the Laureus World Sports Awards as well as for the National Geographic Adventurer of the Year Award. Naturally he gave up his job as a bicycle mechanic and moved to Edinburgh to ride his bike full-time. The rest, as they say, is history...
Danny is constantly working on new projects, and is really excited about the latest one – Danny MacAskill's Solar Eclipse Ride. In it, Danny returns to his native home of the Isle of Skye with photographer Rutger Pauw to capture the solar eclipse in a unique light. The clip gives a behind the scenes look at how they found the spot and how they managed to capture one of the most creative shots of the year...Read more
