What I lack in competitive drive I make up for in conscientiousness

Hi, my name is René Wildhaber. My discipline is Mountain Bike Downhill. My friends call me Wildi. I was born on 23 October 1976 in Flumserberg. My special talent is versatility, style and stamina. My philosophy of life is that I still have a lot that I can learn . My favourite food is cheese.

Bio

René is one of the all-time greats of marathon downhill mountain biking, but he refuses to be called a pro. When he is not winning contests all over the world, he is back in his native Switzerland working on his carpenter’s workbench or milking cows in his parents’ cow shed.

He spends his winters as a ski instructor but still finds time occasionally to break away to show the youngsters how it’s done. In 2008 the six-time Megavalanche Alp d’Huez champion left Olympic gold medalist Julien Absalon and U23 world champion Nino Schurter trailing in his wake at the Avalanche Cup on La Reunion island to prove he could still mix it with the best of them.

Aside from the contest scene, Wildhaber is also known for his legendary sequences in the Kranked movie collection, and continues to inspire riders around the world with his infectious style and stamina.
