Yohei Uchino, aka ‘Ucchie’, is one of Japan's best-loved flatland riders.
Not only does he compete with the world's top riders, but he also performs on stage, often appearing on TV and in magazines. He is also the inventor of the Ucchie Spin, a trick that came into fashion in 2003 and had a huge influence upon BMX Flatland riders all over the world.
In 2008, he became the first Japanese flatland rider to win the Voodoo Jam, a world championship event held in New Orleans, Lousiana. Then, in 2012, he claimed his second world title at the BMX Flatland World Circuit, Jomo Pro, in Joplin, Missouri, and again at the BMX Flatland World Circuit, King of Ground, on home soil. Such impressive accolades resulted in Yohei being voted as the best flatland rider in the NORA Cup in 2012.
And it was clear his good fortune had continued in 2013 and 2014, when he was once again crowned BMX Flatland World Circuit Champion.
