That’s unfortunate news for bike fans, but a result for qualifier leaders Rachel Atherton and Remi Thirion who have been named event winners.

The decision to call an end to the Monte Tamaro leg of the iXS tour was made after dense fog and rain made it impossible to ensure the safety of the competitors. As such, the seeding run is now the result of the final. Rachel Atherton picks up some valuable points and leads the way into the next round at Leogang in Austria after qualifying in first place with an impressive time of 5:29.814.

The Red Bull-backed GT Factory Racing rider came in nearly 12 seconds faster than her nearest rival Emmeline Ragot (5:41.664) and ahead of the third-placed Emilie Siegenthaler (5:42.618) in the Elite Women’s competition.

Labyrinth Shimano’s Remi Thirion, meanwhile, beat out the 250-plus entrants in the Elite Men’s field as he topped the leaderboard with a time of 4:43.245. Damien Spagnolo from MS Mondraker came in just a few seconds behind at 4:46.516, while CK Racing Santacruz’s Mickael Pascal grabbed the third spot with a time of 4:50.162.

Round 2 in Austria on May 26 will hopefully be met with better weather.
