The curtain came down on the iXS European Downhill Cup series this past Sunday but there was still plenty of interest for watching spectators as the overall standings for both the Elite Men and Women’s categories had yet to be decided going into Todtnau.
In the Elite Women category, four candidates for the overall win were separated by just a few points.
France’s Floriane Pugin (Scott11) led the overall rankings with 132 points, four ahead of Swiss rider Miriam Ruchti (SC-Intense). Slovenia’s Zarja Cernilogar (Crn Trn GT) was in third place with 126 points, while another French woman, Emmeline Ragot (MS Mondraker), was in fourth with 122 points.
Ruchti, Cernilogar and Ragot all raced at Todtnau but Pugin was unable to compete due to a broken hand.
Competition was intense with Ragot, Ruchti and Cernilogar all featuring in the top five times at Todtnau. Ragot went down last on the final run and recorded a time of 4:06.071. This comfortably beat Ruchti’s time by over eight seconds.
With the win, Ragot was able to overhaul Ruchti in the overall standings to claim the overall title for the 2012 EDC season. Cernilogar finished fourth at Todtnau.
In the Elite Men, the EDC title chase was not as close but there was still an outside chance that second placed South African Johann Potgieter (Canfield Factory Team) could overtake first placed Swede Robin Wallner (Team Åre Bikepark) for the 2012 title. Wallner had 488 points to Potgieter’s 459 points going into Todtnau.
Wallner recorded the third best time on his final run down the Todtnau trails while Potgieter could only come in 14th. This result confirmed Wallner as the winner of the overall EDC season.
Austria’s Markus Pekoll (MS-Mondraker Team) took the honours as winner of the Todtnau round with a time of 3:34.261. New Zealand’s Joshua Button (SC-Intense) finished second in a time of 3:35.595.
