As we head to Scotland for the Fort William UCI World Cup downhill event this weekend, Rachel Atherton gives us a close-up look at the GT Fury bike that she will be hoping to ride to victory.

Rachel first rode the Fury back in 2012, with the bike carrying her to World Cup glory and earning GT Factory Racing the title of World’s Fastest Downhill Team. Following three seasons of close collaboration between the Atherton family and GT, the new 650b Fury is now into its second season – and the riders are feeling pretty comfortable with their new whips.
“We were heavily involved with the design of the Fury," says Rachel. "Last year we made quite a lot of changes. This year we've just made some small but telling tweaks to the geometry. I'm so excited riding my bike now!
"There are no major component changes. We’ve been working with Fox, Shimano and Continental for ages, so I’m completely comfortable with them."

Rachel on her bike setup:
"We tend not to stray too far from base settings, but one point worth mentioning is that at Fort William I’ll almost certainly stick with dry tyres – even in the likely event it’s pouring down. I always use Continental’s Der Kaiser Project at Fort William because the track is so gritty."
