Some of my tricks take a terrible toll on my body

Hi, my name is Levi Sherwood. My discipline is motocross freestyle. My friends call me Levi. I was born on 22 October 1991 in New Zealand. My special talent is BMX. My philosophy of life is try and live the dream. My favourite food is chicken and pasta. My favourite music is rock and R&B.

Levi was introduced to motorbikes not long after he was introduced to the world in 1991. His father, Dave Sherwood, was a professional motorcycle speedway racer and it was natural for Levi to follow in his father’s dust tracks. However, after 18 years of going round in circles, Levi moved into motocross, where it looked like he might settle.

Settling, though, is not in this rider’s blood and he soon realised that pulling tricks, huge jumps and wowing the crowds was much more his thing. Levi made a move to the world of FMX stunt riding and never looked back... or down.

After huge success and some hair-raising moments performing in his native New Zealand, Levi needed an international debut. The Red Bull X-Fighters in Mexico City provided that chance.

At his first international, the fearless rider triumphed from the very beginning and proved that he wasn’t there to simply mess about – by winning the main event on a wildcard! This secured an official starting place at the Red Bull X-Fighters in Calgary and on the 2009 world tour.

With a combination of outrageous tricks and superb performances throughout, Levi has earned himself the reputation as a world-class rider, as well as the nickname 'Rubber Kid', a few X Games medals, a nomination to the Laureus World Action Sportsperson of the Year in 2011 and the title of Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour Champion in 2012.

After a couple of injury-hit seasons, Sherwood is again competing at the top of his sport, and in 2016 he was back on top of the podium at the inaugural Nitro World Games in Salt Lake City, USA in FMX.
