Rally Mexico 2014 – Highlights

Sébastien Ogier claims victory and VW one-two in Mexico. Plus a first podium for Hyundai.

Volkswagen’s Sébastien Ogier has taken a comfortable victory at Rally Mexico 2014, leading home his team-mate Jari-Matti Latvala by over a minute.
Third place went to Thierry Neuville, with the Belgian delivering Hyundai’s first podium since it returned to the WRC in 2014, as well as scoring his first points of the season.
M-Sport’s Elfyn Evans impressed to claim fourth, his highest-ever finish in the World Rally Championship, while popular Czech privateer Martin Propkop was fifth.
This year’s Rally Mexico proved as unforgiving as ever, with M-Sport’s Mikko Hirvonen, Volkswagen’s Andreas Mikkelsen and Citroën’s Mads Østberg and Kris Meeke all forced to restart the rally under Rally 2 rules following issues with their cars – with Meeke going on to retire from the rally altogether after crashing on the final stage.
Meanwhile Robert Kubica’s difficult start to his career in the top-flight of the WRC continued, with the Polish driver forced into retirement after rolling his Ford Fiesta RS WRC…twice!
Sébastien Ogier took maximum points from the rally by claiming three points on the final Power Stage, taking back the lead in the championship standings from Jari-Matti Latvala. Ogier now heads Latvala by 63 points to 60 as the championship heads to Rally de Portugal next month.
