Alley-oop Flairs, Front Flairs, double backflips, body varials and more spectacular tricks are guaranteed when 12 of the best FMX riders in the world unite at the Plaza de Toro de las Ventas in Madrid on Friday, July 7, 2017.

Multiple X-Fighters event winners and former world tour champions will go head to head at the 16th edition in an attempt to take the crown from Tom Pagès, who has dominated the event on the past four occasions.

Who'll conquer the Spanish cauldron of FMX?

Can local hero Dany Torres, a 13-time starter and two-time winner in Madrid, do it again to make it three victories? Or will one of our former tour champions, including Josh Sheehan and Levi Sherwood, take the crown from Pagès? Could it be someone else?

Read on for a rundown of the riders that'll once again be fighting for glory in front of 23,000 fanatical fans.

Tom Pagès is, with four victories in a row, the man to beat in Madrid and his brutal arsenal of tricks has been the key to staying on top. So far the Frenchman has brought a totally new trick each year to Las Ventas, which has secured him victory.  Will he be able to bring something new in 2017?

Clinton Moore made his first international appearance at the 2010 Rookies Session in Madrid and from that night he showed the FMX world how to approach a career. The Aussie clinched the 2015 Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour Championship with hard work and unique tricks. With a second place in Madrid last year, Moore is definitely one of the favourites for victory.

Levi Sherwood entered the world of FMX with a bang by winning his first Red Bull X-Fighters at only 17 years of age. He has style for miles and his bag of tricks is on a par with the top dogs in the business. The Kiwi has already proved that he can win in Las Ventas and he'll be hungry to settle a score bill with Pagès in Madrid. Watch out for his insane entry jumps over the 35m ramp!

Dany Torres (ESP)

Dany Torres is not only the local hero Madrid, he's also the rider with the most X-Fighter starts under his belt. After 47 events, the Spainard has been demonstrating that he's one of the most talented riders for over a decade now. DT has had to face many injuries and make more than one comeback, but with his experience of 13 starts in Madrid, he'll be a tough opponent for any rider.

Rob Adelberg entered the FMX circus at the tender age of 14 and is one of the new generation of riders from Down Under. He's ready to strike at any time and has won many big events in the past, but he's so far not been able to bring that momentum to Las Ventas. With his fifth invitation to the bullring that might change.

Maikel Melero (ESP)

Maikel Melero is the current FIM Freestyle MX Champion and is another heavyweight entering the bullring. It will be his eighth start in Las Ventas and at his current riding level it would be the right time to strike. The Spaniard has achieved almost everything in the sport, but being victorious in Madrid is still an unaccomplished goal and he's training hard for it.

Taka Higashino's haircut and riding style tell you right away that the 32-year-old is a real punk rocker with no fear of going big – even when performing the most technical backflip combos. Don't be fooled by looking at Higashino's previous Madrid results, the Japanese rider has everything you need to win it, and on his sixth appearance at Las Ventas he might nail it. Watch out for his unbelievable Rock Solid Flip!

Adam Jones (USA)

Adam Jones has done it all. Winning X-Games medals, the Dew Tour, Transworld rider of the year, but he's never had much luck in Las Ventas. This year the American enters the bullring for the seventh time and that might be his lucky number. If Jones wants to tick this victory off the list, he'll have to bring his A-game to Madrid and convince fans and judges with his huge arsenal of unique tricks.

Harry Bink decided when he was 16 that working a nine-to-five job wasn't for him and he became a pro FMX rider. With a bag of tricks including the biggest flip combos and a range of technical upright tricks, he claimed local titles and started to ride international events. Bink's already had a taste of X-Fighters already in the Plaza Monumental in Mexico and could be the surprise of this year's battle in Las Ventas. Watch out for gnarly Harry!
