Tempo is more than just a number. It creates a raft of different genres and subgenres, from microhouse, grime and dubstep to drum'n'bass, hardcore and gabber. Producers and DJs pick their bpm carefully.

Now, exploring just how important tempo is, Berlin's production and DJ collective Through My Speakers explore music created and played at 120, 140 and 160 beats per minute. Over three days at Red Bull Studios Berlin, an all-star crew produced one new track – using a particular tempo – before performing a back-to-back-to-back DJ set.

We caught the whole thing on film. Now you can watch the resulting documentaries, and hear the exclusive tracks and DJ sets, in the players below.
