Milton Martínez

My family didn't watch football. We went skating instead!

Hi, my name is Milton Martínez. My discipline is skateboard street. I was born on 5 March 1991 in Mar del Plata, Argentina. My special talent is fixing up boards; mine break every day. My philosophy of life is make progress, skate, excel and grow as a person.

Strolling in the bright city of Mar del Plata on any given day, you will probably bump into one of the best Argentine skaters, Milton Martínez. Milton looks like just another member of his group of friends, skateboarding on the hills opposite the Atlantic, in the wide public spaces of the city, or on the ramps in Playa Grande. But Milton is no ordinary skater.

Born in 1991, Milton has been virtually glued to a skateboard since he can remember. His father, Tatu Martínez, ensured that Milton was raised in a skater household, preparing Milton’s skateboard even before Milton could walk. “It was just like other kids have a bike or a ball", Milton’s mum explains.

Milton turned pro in 2006, and made his major breakthrough in 2007, when he took silver at the Mexican X Games at just 16 years old. At 18, Milton had become a well-known personality of international skateboarding and, by 2010, had grabbed two top spots at the Rome World Cup in both street and bowl. The following year, he gained two further podium places at the 2011 Rome World Cup in the same disciplines.

Milton is now a frequent traveller, hopping from big city to big city as he notches up his exposure on the international skate scene. He is not only a regular at exhibitions, but has played a starring role in many photo and video productions for popular magazines and influential skateboarding programmes.
