Hi, my name is Mikey Mendoza. My discipline is skateboard street. I was born on 25 June 1997 in Gold Coast, Australia. My special talent is playing ping-pong. My philosophy of life is anyone’s capable of achieving great things, you’ve just got to have the mindset to succeed. The most important person in my life is my aunty. My favourite music is rap.

Mikey Mendoza is the most positive kid you’re ever likely to meet. Despite still being in his teenage years, he’s already got the kind of maturity and foresight that you know is going to serve him well in the years to come.

Mikey had a stellar 2012 that saw him win contests left, right and centre, including the Nike SBA Juniors, Volcom Wild in the Parks and the WITP best trick contest. The following year, the Gold Coast native won SLAM Skateboarding Magazine’s coveted New Gen of the Year 2013 – an award that celebrates the best of the best of Australia’s up and coming rippers.

The day he received the call from SLAM Editor Trent Fahey, he was on a Nike SB media trip in Melbourne and savouring the fact that he was skating with one of his heroes – Shane O’Neill. “I don’t know how I kept my cool,” laughs Mikey. “I was already having the best day, so when Trent called and told me I got New Gen of the Year, I lost my mind!”

Optimistic without being cocky about his future on the board, Mikey’s determined to keep putting the building blocks in place to help him get to where he wants to be. “A quote I live by every day is, ‘Mind over matter’,” says Mikey “Anyone's capable of achieving great things, you've just got to have the mindset to succeed.”
