Deep in a maze of warehouses in San Clemente, California, perched on a hilltop overlooking the Pacific, a nondescript grey building is the only one with lights on in the industrial park.
It’s near midnight on a Wednesday, but the scene is the same every night. Ryan Sheckler rolling up to this address for a nightcap, opening the garage door to reveal every skateboarder’s fantasy: a private park, all to himself.
Sheckler calls the place the SC Sandlot, a homage to what’s undeniably the greatest movie of all time, and it’s his office, his dojo and his zen garden, all in one. Any day he spends at home in Orange County ends at the Sandlot, blasting music, skating his custom ramps and perfecting his craft.
It’s an invite-only affair, and just before heading east to Detroit for Red Bull Hart Lines, his signature skate event, he rallied a crew to mimic the speed, style and flow we’ll see on display in Hart Plaza.
Sheckler designed both this private park and the custom Hart Lines course, and the similarities are clear – the setups favour the skateboarder whose style blends technique and speed, along with any who like to fly.
Up top, you’ll see that all on display – let it whet your appetite for what’s coming up in Detroit on May 13.
Watch Hart Lines live May 13 on Red Bull TV.
