It’s all about calculated risk!

Hi, my name is Simon Eder. My discipline is Biathlon. My friends call me Sam. I was born on 23 February 1983 in Zell am See, Salzburg, Austria. My special talent is cycling. My philosophy of life is to stay healthy, as this is the best way to progress. The most important person in my life is my father.

Air rifle training is a vital requirement for biathletes, and Simon Eder had the best teacher anyone could imagine – his own dad, Alfred, who is a former professional biathlete, and now coaches the biathlon national team.

Simon is well-known among biathlon fans worldwide because one day he just started to shoot faster than other World Cup contestants. “I just noticed that there was a lot I could improve and I then developed a quicker technique for myself,” Simon explains.

After his mini-epiphany, Simon’s competitors couldn't believe their eyes when he recorded shooting times of sub-20 seconds. Some suggest he takes too many risks, but Eder sees it differently. He merely shrugs and adds: “Just the right amount.”

The rapid shooter enjoys tinkering with his rifle to get the most out of his equipment. He's notorious for being able to put his opponents under pressure at the shooting range. ”It's enough for me to follow the development of the new technologies to stay on top”, he adds. “It's a sport where you have to overcome your inner demons and push yourself even harder.”
