For most, Red Bull Art of Motion is an international contest in the idyllic setting of Santorini, Greece. For the athletes though, this annual date on the iconic island is so much more. It’s a friends reunion from all over the world.
This is how lifelong friendships are created. It’s amazing to know that no matter where you are in the world, you will always have a place to crash.
Every autumn, athletes from all over the world take over the white rooftops and the cute alleyways of the island as if a day hasn’t gone by since they last met up. They support one another, they are happy with each other’s happiness and sad with each other’s disappointment. This is how they prove that freerunning is a way of life where competitiveness cannot affect their bond, only strengthen it.
I don’t want to win because someone fell. I want to win without someone else falling.
– Luci Romberg, the best female freerunner in the world.
A freerunner knows that no matter what difficulty may come his or her way, there is always someone in the community there to help in any possible way, as in all strong friendships. Even at the end of each race, where the joy of victory and the disappointment of a mediocre performance clash, the community comes back into place – in a massive group hug.
