FC Red Bull Salzburg Under 19s made Austrian footballing history by becoming the first team from the country to win the UEFA Youth League title.

The Young Bulls defeated Benfica 2-1 in the final in Nyon, Switzerland, with goals from Patson Daka and Alexander Schmidt and remained unbeaten in a competition that included the elite of European football.

They become the third winners of the Lennart Johansson Trophy and take it back to Austria, where Marco Rose's team are to be honoured at the Red Bull Arena as part of the match against SV Ried on Saturday, April 29.

I am just immensely proud of the boys, who have bestowed the best possible reputation on our club today. Europe has to now know that we are playing really good football in Austria.

The victory over Benfica in the final was their ninth unbeaten match in a tournament that saw Salzburg defeat giants of world football Barcelona in the semi finals, as well as Atletico Madrid and Paris St Germain in previous rounds.

We are overjoyed – it's tough to put it into words. At the moment I just can't comprehend what we've achieved. Anyone who has won a big title would understand that it takes a little time to realise that.
