Hi, my name is Michel Bourez. My discipline is surfing competition. My friends call me The Spartan. I was born on 30 December 1985 in Rurutu, Tuamotus Islands. My special talent is tube riding. My philosophy of life is if you want it, go get it. The most important person in my life is my son, Kaoriki. My favourite food is Chinese food. My favourite music is Damian Marley.

Bio

Michel Bourez is a French-speaking Tahitian with the most powerful frontside gouge on tour. Known as The Spartan because of his supreme physique, thanks to the fresh fish, coconut juice and hours surfing he enjoys in Tahiti, Michel qualified for the world tour in 2008.

Michel recently made it to the semi-finals of the 2013 Quiksilver Pro, Gold Coast, earning a best-ever third place at that event. And he came in hot. "Spartan’s been the top surfer of the whole event for me," said Joel Parkinson at the time. "He looks like an animal at the moment. A new surfer, a new competitor, really focused. I love that passion he has on a wave."

Kelly Slater agreed: "You put him on a right with an open face and power to the wave, and he's gonna match it better than anyone. There's not many guys on tour who are as strong as him. When he sets his shoulders and pushes with his legs, it's pretty much a thing of beauty."
