Michel Bourez is a French-speaking Tahitian with the most powerful frontside gouge on tour. Known as The Spartan because of his supreme physique, thanks to the fresh fish, coconut juice and hours surfing he enjoys in Tahiti, Michel qualified for the world tour in 2008.
When Michel made it to the semi-finals of the 2013 Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast, he earned an event-best third place finish. And he came in hot. "Spartan’s been the top surfer of the whole event for me," said Joel Parkinson at the time. "He looks like an animal at the moment. A new surfer, a new competitor, really focused. I love that passion he has on a wave."
Kelly Slater agreed: "You put him on a right with an open face and power to the wave, and he's gonna match it better than anyone. There's not many guys on tour who are as strong as him. When he sets his shoulders and pushes with his legs, it's pretty much a thing of beauty."Read more
