Jamie O’Brien is a pioneer in the field of professional freesurfing. Up until Jamie’s time, almost all professional surfers selfishly shared the same goal of qualifying for the World Tour and winning a title. JOB, however, is not like most people. Instead of grinding it out and trying to qualify, Jamie produced videos. A combination of his raw talent and assertive attitude resulted in a huge success for the films. And just like that, the career of a professional freesurfer was born.
While the rest of the anti-contest world follows in Jamie’s footsteps, he keeps on doing what he does best: surfing the world’s best waves with flare and panache. He’s one of the best humans to ever surf Pipeline, and every swell there results in a blissfully insane performance courtesy of JOB.
He’s also a big fan of irony. Jamie is publicly against competition, and would never bother with the World Tour, yet he snagged a wildcard and won the Pipeline Masters — the most prestigious event on the World Tour. A dream for most, another day in the life of Jamie O’Brien.
