Ultimate New Zeland BMX Road Trip Ep 3

Ultimate New Zeland BMX Road Trip Ep 3

We had thought that our BMX journey across New Zealand was slowly coming to an end, but the fun was actually just about to begin! Welcome to Queenstown, land of the dirt jumps.

Gorge Road

New Zealand's best known spot, Gorge Road is a masterpiece sculpted by dozens of dirt artists, but the main man behind this place is Nathan Greenwood.
As a head trail digger, he organises the efforts of the local diggers and helps keep the lips packed, and the landings mellow. To keep the spot in the best shape, locals need to water the jumps every three hours with automated sprinklers and hand hoses.
Every dirt spot has its rules, so if you're going to visit Greenwood and his beauties, book your time in the early mornings or after dusk. In other times, help with packing beacuse as we all know, no dig, no ride!

Milford Sound

After few days of riding, it was good to rest a bit, and Milford Sound was our next destination. It's a UNESCO protected chain of lakes with stunning views you probably recall from the Lord of the Rings saga. The best way to see it is probably catching a morning or evening ferry to witness its true magic.

Wanaka

Wanaka will please all those who are fed up with 'dirt only' riding days, and loud Queenstown life. It has plenty of small town vibes, deep bowls, smooth concrete and… a dirt spot!
The View is that spot and is pretty nearby. If you decide to ride there, keep in mind that you should water the jumps before riding as high temperatures keep the spot super dry.

Pukaki Lake

To keep yourself cool, head north with your car and jump into Pukaki Lake to enjoy the views of the highest mountain in New Zealand, Mt. Cook.

Castle Hill

When coming back north make sure to visit Castle Hill. Made of enormous limestone boulders that look like a run-down castle, it's a magnificent place to enjoy with your bike. From the natural castle it's only an hour's drive to Arthur's Pass, which is full of cold waterfalls, mountains and stunning lowlands.

Coromandel

For the end of our journey, we went to Coromandel's beaches to catch our last glimpses of New Zealand. It's close to Auckland and the perfect place to stay for a day before you flight back home.
There's a mighty coastline and countless islands that make this place one of a kind. Snap a postcard with your homies and promise yourself to come back at least one more time, just like we did!
