Video: Soul Flyers moonlight BASE jump

The Soul Flyers team attempts one of the their most unique jumps yet.
By Josh Sampiero

This isn't the first time Soul Flyers team members Vincent Reffet and Fred Fugen have flown their wingsuits at night – but it's the first time they've done it off a cliff instead of out of a plane.

But that's not the coolest part – the coolest part is the custom-installed lights hidden in their suits, giving their daring jump an out-of-this-world appearance.

For the Soul Flyers, this jump was only possible with a lot of training. "We know the locations very well – we trained during the day to prepare exactly what we could do at night. You jump, you fly, you know where to pull the chute, you know where you are," says Fugen.

It wasn't nearly as dark as the camera makes it look. "There was plenty of light from the moon," says Fugen. "We could see almost as well as we could during daylight."

Would it be possible to jump without a full moon? Fugen says yes. "As long as the landing has a proper light and we can see where we are going. On top of a city, it's possible – there's a lot of ambient light."

While the video above lets you judge the spectacle for yourselves, it's interesting to hear this from Fugen: "The people who saw it live – and there were very few – said it was simply incredible. To take this show into a football match, in front of a proper audience – that would be amazing."
