Jean-Baptiste Chandelier's paragliding videos always amaze – but Touch may be his best yet.
OK, let's go ahead and get this out there: in the video above, paraglider Jean-Baptiste Chandelier lands on a bus. A moving bus. Sure, Jean-Claude Van Damme did the infamous Volvo truck split, but he didn't land from the sky.
The craziest part? The 28-year-old acro pilot and paragliding wing designer says that wasn't even the hardest part of the video. “The bus was going about 30kph,” he says. ”We actually wanted to go faster, but the headwind was too much!”
The toughest part? “Definitely the pool!” What makes it tougher? A smaller landing zone, more turbulent wind around the buildings, and the risk of injury if he couldn't rise up fast enough.
Some of the risk is reduced by the custom wing Chandelier used for filming. “It's a small acro wing, designed to fly very forward, very aggressively,” he says. “You've got to fly it fast!” So, did he crash? Not even once.
Filming took them from the French Alps to the island of Santorini in Greece, but although there were a few close calls, Chandelier stayed safe. If you haven't watched it yet, click 'play' and enjoy. And before giving it a go yourself – trust us – Chandelier makes it look a lot easier than it is.
