Stefan Glowacz – one of the first legends of modern rock climbing. Chris Sharma – said by many to be one of the best climbers to ever put hand to stone. Two generations of world-class climbers – from two very two different parts of the world – are coming together for what may be one of the most unique projects ever attempted.
For Sharma, it's a chance to work with someone he looked up to as a young climber. Bavarian-born Glowacz, almost two decades older than the Californian, was already a well-known climber when Sharma began his career.
For Glowacz, it's a chance to climb alongside an equal – Sharma has racked up dozens of first ascents on some of the world's most difficult climbs, and someone he considers a 'role model'.
The two have crossed paths often, and have long discussed climbing together – but Into the Light will be their first chance to do so.
In many ways, it's the perfect opportunity. Sharma says that Stefan's big-wall and expedition experience will play perfectly off his skills as a sport climbing purist – and they'll need both to put up this incredibly ambitious route.
Alright, we know what you're thinking: tell us about the damn route already! But, you're going to have to be patient. We'll give you three clues: the route is big, unique, and has never been done before and likely will never be done again. Want more? Come back for Episode 2, this Wednesday – and trust us, it will be worth it!
