Meet the Pilots of the World's Fastest Motorsport

12 world class pilots will take to the skies this weekend as Red Bull Air Race arrives in Texas.

We are just days away from Red Bull Air Race taking over the Texas Motor Speedway in Dallas. Once again, the U.S. will play host to the fastest motorsport racing in the world, and the world's greatest pilots will be the center of all the action. The Master Class features 12 of the top fliers in the world; allow us to introduce you to the athletes of Red Bull Air Race:

Kirby Chambliss

Kirby Chambliss

Hometown: Tuscon, Arizona

Plane: Edge 540

Racing Resume: Red Bull Air Race world champion in 2004 and 2006, along with eight Red Bull Air Race victories throughout his career. Currently 11th in Red Bull Air Race 2014 standings.

Fun Fact: He has his own hangar and runway built right in the backyard of his house. 

Pilot Michael Goulian

Michael Goulian

Hometown: Maynard, Massachusetts

Plane: Edge 540

Racing Resume: U.S. national champion of aerobatic flying in 1995 in the Unlimited category. Currently ranked 12th in Red Bull Air Race 2014 standings.

Fun Fact: He learned to fly before he could drive a car and took his first solo flight on his 16th birthday.

Hannes Arch

Hometown: Salzburg, Austria

Plane: Edge 540

Racing Resume: Red Bull Air Race world champion in 2008 and finished second in 2010. Current points leader in the 2014 Red Bull Air Race standings.

Fun Fact: He has climbed many of the world’s most dizzying mountains and leapt off many cliffs as a BASE jumper.

Matthias Dolderer

Hometown: Tannheim, Germany

Plane: Edge 540

Racing Resume: Third place finish in Barcelona at the season finale of Red Bull Air Race in 2009. Currently ranked eighth in the 2014 Red Bull Air Race standings.

Fun Fact: He grew up at his parent’s flight school and took his first flight with his father at the age of three.

Peter Besenyei

Hometown: Harceghalcom, Budapest

Plane: Corvus Racer

Racing Resume: First overall in the inaugural 2003 Red Bull Air Race season and finished second three years running from 2004-2006. Currently ranked 10th in the 2014 Red Bull Air Race standings.

Fun Fact: He became famous for flying upside down under the Chain Bridge that spans the Danube river in Budapest.

Paul Bonhomme

Hometown: Cambridge, Great Britain

Plane: Edge 540

Racing Resume: Red Bull Air Race world champion in 2009 and 2010 to go along with a record 13 race wins and 36 podium finishes. Currently in the runner-up spot in the 2014 Red Bull Air Race standings.

Fun Fact: He flies a Boeing as an airline captain for British Airways.

Nigel Lamb

Hometown: Oxfordshire, Great Britain

Plane: MXS-R

Racing Resume: Third overall in Red Bull Air Race 2010 and has won the British National Unlimited Aerobatic Championship for eight years straight. He's currently in third in the Red Bull Air Race standings.

Fun Fact: He has done more than 1,770 displays in over 30 countries as a display pilot over the last 30 years.

Yoshihide Muroya

Hometown: Fukushima, Japan

Plane: Edge 540

Racing Resume: Third place in the Japan glider championship at age 22. Currently seventh in the 2014 Red Bull Air Race standings.

Fun Fact: He is the first Red Bull Air Race pilot to hail from Asia and has introduced pre-race meditation to the series.

Nicolas Ivanoff

Hometown: Paris, France

Plane: Edge 540

Racing Resume: First place finish at San Diego in Red Bull Air Race 2009 and took second place at the French Unlimited Aerobatics Championship in 2004. Currently sitting sixth in the 2014 Red Bull Air Race standings.

Fun Fact: He is consistently the best-dressed at the after-race parties.

Pilot Martin Sonka

Martin Sonka

Hometown: Sezimovo Usti, Czech Republic

Plane: Edge 540

Racing Resume: Four Unlimited Championship titles for the Czech aerobatic team and in 2011 became a World Freestyle vice champion. Currently sitting ninth in the 2014 Red Bull Air Race standings.

Fun Fact: He was a gymnast for 12 years in his youth.

Pete Mcleod

Hometown: London, Ontario, Canada

Plane: Edge 540

Racing Resume: Fifth overall finish in Red Bull Air Race 2010, and currently ranked fifth in Red Bull Air Race 2014.

Fun Fact: He got his degree in Economics from the University of Western Ontario.

Matt Hall

Hometown: Merewether, Australia

Plane: MXS

Racing Resume: Third place overall in Red Bull Air Race 2009 and followed that up with two podium finishes in 2010. Currently ranked third in 2014 Red Bull Air Race points.

Fun Fact: He is a former top gun pilot in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF).
