Ocean racing’s great adventure starts now!

The Volvo Ocean Race starts today, as the boats leave Alicante headed for Cape Town.

This isn't your local sailing club's summer regatta. This is open-ocean, wind-powered adventure at the highest level. The Volvo Ocean Race – one of the toughest races in the world, in any sport – starts today, as the boats leave Alicante, Spain, on Leg 1, headed for Cape Town, South Africa.

The seven teams will race in nine different legs over almost 40,000 nautical miles en route to the finish in Gothenburg, Sweden, in June 2015. To follow along closely, tune into Red Bull TV starting October 14, where you'll be able to watch a web series about the race. Storms and high seas await!
