In episode five of Miles Above, the series on the life and times of the Red Bull Air Force, we are introduced to the extraordinary family of Luke Aikins.
I grew up on a private airport . . . watching people skydive – that was totally normal for us
"I was born in to a family that had a lot to do with aviation," says Luke Aikins in the video above. "My whole life has been about this. I grew up on a private airport. Sitting on the ground as a little kid, watching people skydive – that was totally normal for us. Everybody's 'normal' is different."
Aikins' younger cousin Andy Farrington grew up nearby, and just so happens to also be a member of the Red Bull Air Force. "Our grandpa started the family business," Aikins proudly stated of their shared aerial heritage.
"We [have] a family-ran business, teaching people how to skydive," continued Farrington. "My whole entire family skydives."
The Fourth of July is the background for the family's unique celebration of America's birthday – including a patriotic wingsuit jump at night with up to five pounds of fireworks strapped to each flyer's foot, complete with water landing.
