After a dramatic season of sensational diving, vital ranking points are still up for grabs in the grand finale of the 2014 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series from the Yucatán jungle, with all the action airing on FOX Sports 1 on Monday, December 1 at 7:00 p.m. ET/4:00 p.m. PT.
The first-ever female World Series champion will emerge, and the ‘brilliant Brit’ Gary Hunt will be crowned overall winner after securing the title at Spain’s penultimate stop in September.
Competition among the men remains high, particularly for one of the coveted top-five places and a guaranteed spot in next season’s series. Three divers, including American David Colturi, are in a battle for an invite, and it may come down to the final dive.
In the Women’s World Series, it’s Texan Rachelle Simpson coming to Mexico as the leader of the standings. After two straight wins from 20m, she is 80 points ahead of six-time European cliff diving champion Anna Bader. America’s Ginger Leigh Huber and Tara Hyer-Tira, and Mexico’s Adriana Jimenez currently share the third spot in the women’s standings. The top four divers from the first Women's World Series are automatically qualified for the 2015 series.
“Mexico provides the purest diving venue for the competitors, as they drop below sea level into an 85-foot natural well that is surrounded by earth walls,” said FOX Sports 1 host Trace Worthington. “The women wrap up their debut on the series where Rachelle Simpson is the favorite to win the title after an exceptional season.”
Along with Worthington, the show is hosted by 10-meter platform diving Olympic gold medalist David Boudia. The Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series is part of a stunning global sports series on FOX Sports 1 that also includes the Air Race World Championship, Crashed Ice World Championship and X-Fighters World Tour.
After the FOX Sports 1 broadcast, the event will be available the same evening on demand starting at 9:00 p.m. ET on Red Bull TV, which is available for free at www.redbull.tv, through its iOS and Android applications, and on Apple TV, Xbox 360, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, and Samsung Smart TVs.
