How a Rock Climber Met His Match in Scary Rapids

Watch an animation of Kevin Jorgeson’s white-water romance story, told in his own words.
By Alison Mann

You might know American rock climber Kevin Jorgeson from his ascent of the Dawn Wall on El Capitan in California, what is widely called "the hardest route ever climbed." He pulled off that feat with his buddy Tommy Caldwell in 2009. The 31-year-old has been climbing since he was 19, so it would be fair to say he’s had a good few adventures in his life.

But what about when Jorgeson isn't scaling rock faces? He doesn’t sit at home with his feet up, that’s for sure. We’re going to get a little mushy on you now, as he tells the story of the moment when he realized his girlfriend was the one for him. Don’t worry, though, it’s not your average tale of romance — it involves rafting at the terrifying Horn Creek Rapid in the Grand Canyon and a close encounter with a huge boulder. But we will let him tell you himself in the video above.
