Take a look at the madness of this water race

With its souped-up tin boats and tight corners, this may well be the wildest boat race on Earth.

For the uninitiated, the concept of the annual Red Bull Dinghy Derby might seem quite foreign. But it’s time to get educated.

It goes like this: up to 100 people from the Australian town of Renmark strap supercharged motors to heavily modified fishing boats capable of hitting 90kph and take to the mighty Murray River. During the race, the two-person teams rip through skinny creeks and down river runs barely wide enough for the boat itself. It all makes for a wild water race that will leave you scratching your head.

But wonder no more, hit play on the video player and learn all about it.

The 2017 Red Bull Dinghy Derby will take place at 10am on Sunday February 5, in Renmark, South Australia. For more info, head to redbull.com.au/dinghyderby.
