Steel Lafferty certainly embodies all the characteristics you'd expect from one of the rising stars of the wakeboarding world. Fun and upbeat, Steel has a larger-than-life personality and the future of the sport at his feet.
Steel lives with fellow wakers Kevin Henshaw, Parks Bonifay, Danny Harf and Rusty Malinoski in Clermont, Florida. He knows that to be the best he has to train with the best. "They ride with me and push me to be the best wakeboarder on and off the water", he says. And luckily he has a strong work ethic, too. "I feel like being the best wakeboarder in the world is not only winning every contest, but being the best all-round rider which includes videos, photos and rail riding." As well as winning first place at the nationals, Steel dominated the Masters and PWT five competitions gaining huge credibility among his peers.
Steel has set a few 'firsts' himself. He's the first wakeboarder to land a wake to wake 1080 and a toeside backside 900 off a double up. "To be able to be the first person in the WHOLE WORLD to land a new trick wakeboarding and always being a part of wakeboarding’s history is so sick."
When he's not on the water, he still keeps active. Find him at the golf course or shooting hoops on the basketball court if he's not at one of his favourite wake parks.Read more
