Growing up on a boat cruising the South Pacific with her family, Alex Maloney already gained ‘nautical’ experience in her very early days.
"It was an awesome lifestyle, and I grew to love the ocean and nature. I also learnt a certain level of respect for the ocean and the power it has over you, when stuck in a few gnarly storms," she says of her experience.
Alex started sailing herself in the junior classes and soon fell in love with competitive sailing, the 49erFX class, skiff racing and the opportunities that came with it.
When it was announced that there will be a women’s skiff at the 2016 Olympics, she teamed up with Molly Meech, a pairing which already proved to be successful on their first year on the circuit.
