UCI XCO World Cup: Val di Sole report

Richard Cunynghame rounds up the story of Saturday's Elite Men's and Women's cross-country races.

Catherine Pendrel lead the early laps of the women’s race before slipping back a few places allowing Katerina Nash and Tanja Zakelj to take the front of a fairly spread out field.

On the final lap it was Zakelj who came through to take her second win a row.

Nino Schurter and Julien Absalon took the lead early on in the men’s event with Jaroslav Kulhavy deciding to let them run away with it and concentrate on securing third place.

As we saw at the last round in Nove Mesto it was a game of cat and mouse between the Swiss and French pair out at the front of the race right till the finish. That battle came to a culmination on the final sprint when Schurter set off for an early sprint to the line. The power he still had sealed another great victory for him.
