A decade of dominance draws to a close.
Nico Vouilloz - the most successful male DHer of all time. A name which reigned over the sport with a typically Gallic shrug of the shoulders.
Nico brought an attention to detail and preparation which couldn't be equalled. He even carried a dyno in the back of his van to help him set up his bikes suspension better. Whilst the rest of the sport went all 'X-Games and attitude', Vouilloz just kept winning. He wore Lycra because it made him go faster, not because the sposnors liked how it looked in ads.
Steve Peat was second at Kaprun in 2002 by just over half a second, it was Nico's tenth and final set of stripes. That's how close it often was between them but the Frenchman was the one who headed off into the sunset with the glittering palmares. Will we ever see his kind of alien-like domination again?
