The Props Road Fools Box Set, featuring a whopping 35 hours of BMX content, was recently released, providing plenty of entertainment for happy riders all over the world (watch Ruben Alcantara's gap into a huge shark fin from Road Fools 6 above). Props owner Chris Rye was kind enough to assemble a few facts behind the enormous task of putting all 18 Road Fools editions into one box set.
Number of Hours Editing:
Exact total unknown. Five months in the office at an average of 40-60 hours/week (800-1,300).
Number of Different Apps Used:
14. Adobe Premiere v6.5 (old version running on old Mac OS 10.3.8), Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Lightroom, Compressor, Cinema Tools, Soundtrack, Parallels, IGEditor, EasyBD, TextEdit and Toast for dozens and dozens of test burns to BD-RW discs (both 50 & 25 GB sizes).
Rye’s Favorite Feature of the Box Set:
The Road Fools 1 featurette, which is basically a 24-minute mini-documentary on the first trip.
Number of Tapes Used for All Road Fools Trips:
Around 500, if I had to take an educated guess.
Number of Different Buses/RVs used on Road Fools Trips:
Seven. The ones we owned: the Gulfstream SunVoyager RV, Hank Williams Jr.'s old tour bus, the black Sterling conversion rig and the Prevost bus from RF18. Walter Pieringer had his conversion rig on some trips and the etnies rig was on a bunch as well. Then the bus we rented for the Euro trip.
Number of Fictional Characters Who Appeared in the Series:
[Laughs] At least eight. Luscious Lee Wade (Leland Thruman), Buck Choklit (Steve Crandall), Lance, Captain Idiot (Leigh Ramsdell), Mr. Bonsai (Shoe-g Ueyama), Chewbutta (Chad Degroot), the Hessian (Matt Beringer), Officer Dale (Dave Freimuth) and probably some I'm forgetting.
Number of Tapes Lost, Destroyed or Confiscated in the History of Road Fools:
None that I know of, which, if true, is pretty unbelievable.
Estimated Number of Miles Driven:
Unknown. At least 150,000, probably more.
Number of Different Riders Who Went on Road Fools Trips:
At least 170 different riders.
Number of Different Editors Throughout the Series:
Four main ones. Myself, Nate Wessel, Stew Johnson and Walter Pieringer.
Number of Different Filmers:
Off the top of my head, 11 I can remember. Myself, Marco Massei, Dave Freimuth, Nate Wessel, Stew Johnson, Will Stroud, Joel Moody, Shad Johnson, Walter Pieringer, Terrell Gordy and Ryan Navazio. I know I'm forgetting some.
Number of Different Photographers:
At least 13. Myself, Sandy Carson, Dave Freimuth, Ed Docherty, Chris Hallman, Adam Booth, Mark Losey, Keith Mulligan, JPR, Jeff Zielinski, Ryan Fudger, Rob Dolecki and Vincent Perraud.
Number of Different Cameras Used Throughout the Series:
