The BMX competition at X Games 2014 wrapped up on Sunday with the Park event, with the Austin fans showing support for hometown hero Chase Hawk. Hawk, who had previously never medaled at X Games, mastered the concrete bowl course and collected gold for the Lone Star State, while Red Bull teammates Drew Bezanson and Daniel Sandoval rounded out the podium with silver and bronze, respectively (watch video of their runs above and below).
The elimination round provided a bit of drama, as defending gold medalist Daniel Dhers sat outside of the top six transfer spots until the very last minute, when he pulled it together in his final run to make the cut. He fared better in the Final, holding strong in the silver position behind Hawk until first Bezanson and then Sandoval made late pushes onto the podium. Dhers finished in fourth.
Bezanson's first two runs contained high points like a nearly helmet-scraping barrel roll to manual (pictured at top), but it was his third that brought everything together. His backrail fufanu helped seal his grip on silver.
For Sandoval, it was also a third-run triumph that sent him to the podium. His all-out trick attack was loaded with barspin and flair variations as well as a crowd-pleasing frontflip. Sandoval also earned bronze in BMX Park at X Games Munich in 2013.
