Anthony Messere first stomped onto the mountain bike scene with a third-place finish at Red Bull Joyride in 2011, highlighted by an unbelievable air over the hip (pictured above) that shocked the industry. The fact that a young and relatively unknown rider was blasting competition airs halfway to the moon put Messere's name on everyone's lips.

However, Messere's riding career started some time before. He was a mainstay local British Columbian shredder and got his first break when the legendary Canadian BMX pro Jay Miron spotted him riding at local skateparks around Vancouver. Before long, Messere was sponsored by Miron's MacNeil Bikes in 2009.

After gaining competition experience over the past few years, Messere has matured into a full-fledged professional rider with the moves to match.

And he definitely hasn't lost those pop skills either, as you can see in Anthony's Instagram post below from the 2013 Bearclaw Invitational.
Although he's had several legitimate chances at podiums in his career, run consistency has kept him off the top step.

But that streak ended this month when Messere finally got the first big win he was looking for, taking victory at Crankworx Les 2 Alpes with a run that was both technical and daring (check it out via the link below).
Messere looks to be hitting perfect form in time for this year's Red Bull Joyride competition, and that boost of confidence from the Crankworx win in France could make all the difference when the gauntlet is thrown back on home soil on August 16.
