Daniel Sandoval - Action

Watch never-before tricks by BMX master Daniel Sandoval.

Known for his high-flying combos and a vast arsenal of tech tricks, Daniel Sandoval is constantly pushing the progression of BMX.
Coming off an ankle injury in late 2014, Daniel is back to full form as he set out to ride some of Southern California’s most popular skateparks. With new moves, jaw-dropping gaps and perfected classics, Sandoval’s first official Red Bull video release (above) does not disappoint.
We caught up with Sandoval to discuss the details of his new edit – read below to see what tricks are up his sleeve for 2015.
redbull.com: You're known to push progression, but considered a contest rider. Does that ever bother you?
Daniel Sandoval: No, not at all. I want people to know that I love pushing the sport and myself as far as I can.

Daniel Sandoval - Story

Get to know BMX master Daniel Sandoval.

Let's talk about your new edit, technically your first with Red Bull Media House. What was your motivation?
I just wanted to make a really good video for Red Bull, because they have helped me a lot in my career. And also show that not only can I ride contests, but I can produce an awesome edit as well.
We see quite a few never-been-done tricks; how do you come up with new variations?
A lot of my motivation on new tricks comes from just riding with friends; we just give each other some ideas on how to do new tricks. But a lot of the times, it's just a spark in the riding session where I think of something and just try it in foam, then just go from there.
Are you working on any tricks we didn't see in the new edit?
Well, I have a good amount of tricks up my sleeve; I would just rather keep it a secret until the moment is right for me to do one of them.

What is the move you're most proud of in this edit?
One of my favorite clips is the ender, which is the gap, just because people never see me do that kind of stuff. It was cool to see footage of me doing one. One of the most difficult tricks to learn — but to me the most fun — is the frontflip flair. It's an amazing-looking trick and not many people are doing them.
On Instagram, you've been showing that you're riding a freecoaster hub recently — how's that learning curve been?
Honestly, I put the freecoaster on because it was the challenge of a new type of riding — but it was mainly just for fun.
What tricks have you found more difficult with the coaster?
I'm not sure; I didn't really ride it enough to test how far I can go, I just messed around with it.
What tricks have been easier?
Just any trick into fakies.
What's your favorite new trick you have going right now?
Pretty much tech tricks, like whip to inside footjam.
What's your favorite Red Bull Editions flavor at the moment?
Cranberry — the Red Edition.
You just returned from a trip; what were you doing down in Australia?
I had the opportunity to go out there to do a contest at the Clipsal 500 race. It was an amazing experience and I just had a good time with the boys out there.
Anything else you'd like to share about the edit?
I really love the edit but just wish I had a bigger timeframe to film more stuff. There's always the next one...
What are your plans for the 2015 season?
I plan on trying to hit every major contest this year and to produce a few more edits.
