The top StarCraft II players in the world will soon battle it out in the Big Apple for $50,000.
With the online qualifiers in the books and sOs getting an automatic bid with his win at the WCS Global Finals at BlizzCon, here is the full list of the eight players invited to participate at Red Bull Battle Grounds in New York City.
Jang "MC" Min Chul
He remains one of the most iconic players in professional StarCraft, thanks to a terrific sense of humor and a list of professional achievements as long as a phone book. MC was one of the first greats of Wings of Liberty, winning his first GSL title in the spring of 2011. After back-to-back second place finishes in WCS Europe, MC is poised to become the Boss-Toss once more.
Choi "Bomber" Ji Sung
Having a breakout year, Bomber won the WCS Season 2 Finals this summer and had a top four finish at the WCS Global Finals. He’s known for aggressive Terran play, bolstered by an unerring killer instinct. When Bomber makes his move, he commits everything to the attack and then chooses his moment to win or die trying.
Jens "Snute" Aasgaard
This Zerg player belongs near the top of any list of "up and coming" non-Korean StarCraft 2 players. He put on a terrific show at Red Bull Training Grounds in July, where he beat Chris "HuK" Loranger 4-3, but the competition at Battlegrounds is undeniably tougher. Still, with a victory at Homestory Cup VI last winter and a second-place finish at Homestory VII behind Liquid teammate Yoon "TaeJa" Young Suh, Snute is increasingly capable of reaching an elite level.
Jo "Golden" Myeong Hwan
He's a young StarTale Zerg who came to the team after stints with a number of other big-name eSports squads, including SlayerS. While he hasn't amassed nearly as many accolades as some of his legendary teammates, Golden has a ton of breakthrough potential. Last year he had a top-4 finish at HomeStory V, and his first place at Red Bull Training Grounds back in June could be a sign that he's ready to level up his game.
Ko "HyuN" Seok Hyun
Undoubtedly one of the world's best Zerg players and a regular finalist on the international tournament scene. With a victory over Jaedong at DreamHack Valencia and a second-place finish both in GSL Season 5 last year and at MLG's Spring Championship, HyuN is a proven master.
Sasha "Scarlett" Hostyn
She is probably the greatest North American StarCraft player in the game right now. She stunned the field at the Season 2 Finals, winning a quarterfinal spot and then coming within a game of knocking Bomber out the tournament. She then won the Battle Grounds North American qualifier thanks to her resilience and spectacular game sense. Scarlett will need both to survive in New York.
Won "PartinG" Lee Sak
Parting won last year's WCS championship, taking home a $100,000 grand prize out of a field that included the world's very best players. He's been a brilliant player throughout his career and he's known particularly for a daring Immortal all-in called the "Soul Train." PartinG's dominance in the Team Liquid Map Contest showed that he is coming to Battlegrounds at the top of his game.
Kim "sOs" Yoo Jin
Crowned as the 2013 WCS Global Finals champion, sOs is coming off of a very dominant performance. Heading into Red Bull Battle Grounds, sOs is on such a hot streak he is considered by many a clear favorite to win.
