LoL's new mode adds an extra player, a Dota league gets a boost from fans in today's drop.
1. LoL Adds 6-Player Mode
Five’s company in League of Legends, but is six a crowd? We’ll find out soon enough. For two weeks starting February 20, Riot is releasing a new featured gameplay mode it’s calling Hexakill. It’s basically the same game and same rules except that each side will have six players instead of five.
That means potentially double junglers, roaming supports and six-man team fights. Craziness.
2. Dota Players Boost Another Prize Pool
Once again, selling in-game items to raise prize pools for Dota 2 tournaments seem to be paying off. Literally.
The Dota 2 Champions League Season 2 has more than doubled its prize pool from $50,000 to $101,000 by selling the Gladiator's Revenge set for $10. ($2.50 of each purchase has gone directly to the prize pool). Last summer, The International 3 broke eSports records for offering a $2.87 million prize pool with help from the players buying in-game items.
3. Meet Your Meet Your Makers
After announcing last month that they were returning to professional Dota after two years off, Meet Your Makers (MYM) just revealed their new official lineup. The German team revealed that long time pro Rasmus "MiSeRy" Filipsen would step in as a coach and a sub.
The rest of the lineup looks like this:
- Jonathan "Unicorn" Arge
- Andreas "Cr1t-" Nielsen
- Marcus "Ace" Hoelgaard
- Hampus "Mini" Olsson
- Metehan "exist" Aksüt
