The early days

Ricciardo raced wheel to wheel with Valtteri Bottas in the 2008 Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup Series. Daniel went on to finish second in the championship behind the current Williams driver.

A year in the British Formula Three Championship saw Ricciardo dominate the formula with 13 podiums and seven wins on his way to becoming the 2009 series champion.

Chance of a lifetime

Later that year, Ricciardo got his chance to drive a Formula One car for Red Bull Racing. During the Young Driver Test at Jerez he set the fastest time by over a second, impressing the team enough to give him the reserve driver role.

Four wins in his first full season in the Renault World Series was enough for Ricciardo to finish the 2010 championship as runner-up, just two points shy of leader Mikhail Aleshin.
