We round up all the motorsport gold medals from last weekend’s X Games Foz do Iguacu.
With the riders all fighting to pull the sickest shapes in the light-hearted event, it was Jeremy ‘Twitch’ Stenberg (the rider in the yellow jersey) who came out on top after fans voted for the winner via Twitter.
While the result may have been predictable, the race was anything but, with Blazusiak having to fight hard early on with Cody Webb, before Webb undid all his hard work by crashing not once, but twice. And when Taddy Blazusiak’s coming after you, you can’t make mistakes like that.
After her domination of the AMA Woman’s EnduroCross series, many thought Maria Forsberg was a shoe-in for the gold medal in Brazil. She had to play second fiddle to X Games newcomer Laia Sanz of Spain, however, who claimed a comfortable win in the final.
Pulling off some staggering tricks in the final, including his trademark Rock Solid Backflip, while rival Jackson Strong crashed out of contention, Japan’s Taka Higashino claimed gold, holding off Rob Adelberg and Wes Agee.
In what was one of the most hotly contested contests of the whole event, former Formula One driver Scott Speed came out on top, beating more experienced rivals despite being a rallycross novice.
Winning out over Norwegian Andre Villa in the final, 23-year-old relative unknown Lance Coury took gold in what was his first ever X Games. "I didn't even expect to ride X Games this year,” he said. “I didn't expect to make it to the final round...honestly, I just had fun out there."
Another X Games newcomer, Bryce Hudson found himself in a two-way battle with reigning Step Up champion and record holder Ronnie Renner. But when Renner failed to clear the 31ft marker, a shocked Hudson claimed his first ever gold medal.
